The future begins... I am not a fan of the Terminator series. Of course, I like the first part, I really like the second part and I’m relatively calm about the third part, so I just couldn’t miss the fourth part. At least in order to see the continuation of the story, to watch and compare the work of the new director with other Terminators, which he did not shoot, and just relax, because it was clear immediately that “Terminator” lost its creative potential even after Schwarzenegger was lowered on an iron cable in the lava (or wherever else, I do not understand these alloys). Well, in principle, the film is not bad, but by and large, it does not have much to do with the former terminator.
Everything that is told in this film, you can find out if you look at the first ten, fifteen minutes of the beginning of the first part, and all the other details already think for yourself. Well, by God, the idea is no longer original. It was already clear, even before the announcement that the fourth part would still be filmed, that the plot of the film would address, first of all, the most interesting twist of the storyline in the future. I mean, of course, the father-son reunion. All feelings for the characters immediately disappear, because from the very beginning of the film it was clear that everyone will live long (although how long this is a difficult question) and happy. This is one of two interesting ideas about the future (the second is naturally the apogee of the entire Terminator, that is, the complete surrender of Skynet and everything related to it). It was implemented here, maybe not very competently, not as successfully as I would like, but still it was. 2018 from the birth of Christ. John Connor is a man whose destiny is to lead the Resistance to the Electronic Brain of Skynet and the Terminator Army. But the future, with faith in which he is returned, is wedged by the mysterious Marcus Wright: a stranger whose last memories draw death rows. Why we got another Marcus, it's not clear. Of course, you can see that in the end he played a decisive role in the film, but still it could do any other character in the film. And the storyline about who to live, a person or a car, in my opinion, in this case was superfluous.
It is clear that with the departure of Schwarzenegger, who was both the face and brand of the previous terminators, will sharply undermine the popularity of this part. But you can say that Christian Bale was not bad in this movie. Of course, no one would play John Connor better than Edward Furlong, and it was clear in advance that Bale had played his best role long ago, even in his very first film, Empire of the Sun, but at least he did not ruin this film at all. I didn’t like the other characters very much. Sam Worthington. Well, absolutely zero emotion.
Such films will always be a commercial success, and no matter who makes it, who plays it, the main thing is that the title has the word “Terminator”. Because of this one, people will go to the cinemas and watch and rejoice, and crave a sequel, without realizing that this is no longer their favorite “Terminator”, this is an ordinary, albeit well-made action, with an incomprehensible plot, and bad acting, and I just have to say...
