To me, the biggest drawback of the series is space battles, how they take place and how they are shown. The second disadvantage is sometimes the length of the story. But none of this is critical.
Everything else is a rattling mixture of politics, intrigue, romance, power and philosophy. There are many interesting dialogues and arguments between the characters that can really interest you. For example, I began to wonder about the nature of government.
There are many different characters, each of which has its own story. There is a smart and imperious emperor, and a revolutionary journalist, and a burned-out merchant and cunning man, and a simple farmer from a seedy planet, and a careerist official, and representatives of intelligence on both sides and many others - and they all have their own history and their lives. Basically, the whole world.
This is good old fiction when they tried to take not so much beautiful pictures as inner fullness.
I watched it a long time ago, and after a while there were quite warm feelings. I even wanted to reconsider.
