Very good comedy about times and customs. The Victorian era in the United States. A time of strict morality and denial of sexuality. Medicine reflects the zeitgeist. Dr. Kellogg (a real historical figure) “cures” wealthy Americans with various debilitating procedures, leading them to exhaustion and sexual neurosis. Again, the real prototype did just that, only it was seriously implicated in religion. In the film, this moment was omitted, and Kellogg himself was shown rather a crazy, but good-natured eccentric. Of course, the movie is about what happens if natural problems are not solved naturally. Humor is in place, the actors are pouring out, it’s nice to watch Hopkins – a great movie.
