How Jack Met Jill How many times have you told the world... give it more and more. Romkom about a chance meeting, turned into a truly unreal love, in the tangle of a variety of relationships, by chance intertwined in this way. In principle, there are many stories in the spirit of “When Harry Met Sally”, and all sorts of confused/forgotten luggage are also not new, and yet a new comedy on the old theme, with a lot of romance.
The first script and directorial work of Jennifer Devolder, turned out to be the first pancake. The picture is hampered by absolute secondaryness, and the absence of star names, and many bright competitors in the spirit of “Shopaholic” and “Proposal” already available at the box office, and coming out at the end of the year, the comedy risks getting the same “why watch the same?”. After all, it is not a novelty at all, but as a melodrama it will be trampled by the tearful “New Moon” and its sea of fans.
If we go directly to the essence of things, then we have a one-sided message to women’s society. An American and a French woman who would never have met under normal circumstances are bound by the loss of their luggage. But they do not receive each other’s luggage, which determines certain factors about the identity of the owner of the thing, no – someone else’s luggage gets only the Frenchwoman, leaving the line of the main character dry, played and simply completely unnecessary.
Oh, how ridiculous it looks to try on the role of a god or guardian angel, when this simple man turns out to be a link for several more couples, bringing peace and tranquility, love and sweetness to others, and he suffers and cannot get out of the country. On the other side of the story is a pretty pretty heroine, in every possible way having fun with the things of a suitcase, completely confident in the character and appearance of a mysterious stranger. It's much more interesting here. The heroine will be a member of the cinema club, where three favorite films immediately begin to describe the psychological portrait of the client. And for movie lovers, these plot elements simply must be interesting.
As for humor, the most successful was the joke about the pig, but I think it is directly our dubbing tried, God knows what was the answer in the original. In the end, it is in places really funny, but so unconvincing that the comedy pales under a ton of unnecessary garbage and the grayness of the narrative. The action is devoid of serious events and changes, the whole timekeeping shows us the same thing, after which they prepare a double denouement of everything that happens, forgetting even about romance.
And if the elegantly concealed intim “Promise does not mean marriage”, cleverly concealed by the censorship of the camera, then here the inept vulgarity comes to the fore, and even if the camera does not give enough to consider the erotic scenes, they are set quite crudely and not beautifully, scaring off the film more than attracting him. In addition, the film was so female that some small reference point to “so that men do not get bored, and be shown a boob” does not work with all its availability. And the effect does not achieve a single scene. Monologues are boring, dialogues are stingy and even meaningless, and the film lacks the integrity of its development.
Devolder managed to somehow blind the played plasticine background to the whole good plot, and she did not dare to move further than the plot itself, eating one and a half hours the same thing, and moving immediately to the final. And even closing your eyes to the inability of the actors to stay in the frame, despite the lack of at least some persuasiveness in each hero of the narrative, you try to be fascinated by a beautiful story of unreal love. Fairy tale, you know, it's nice when it's devoid of unnecessary snot. Therefore, at the moment, the best alternative to “New Moon” at the box office in the coming weeks. Go and see and forget.
