In the second half of 2000 it became very fashionable to make gloomy films about the life of representatives of non-traditional specialties in previous eras. “The Illusionist” was released almost immediately after “Perfume” and in parallel with another film about magicians “The Prestige”. But unlike these films, which should captivate not so much the intrigue as the atmosphere in the “illusionist”, the most important denouement of the film, which supposedly should put the entire film on its head. I did not have such a coup, as I treated the magician negatively, and continued to treat him.
The acting is quite at the level of a good American blockbuster, but I did not see any revelations on the game, although I expected them from the same Norton, but, alas, he walks the whole film with almost the same facial expression and does his tricks, which look like special effects. This is despite the fact that in fact, all the tricks shown in the film are sleight of hand, and there is not an ounce of computer fraud.
