Maybe Leon was the brainchild of its time, and I should have watched it then, and being inside the atmosphere of the 90s, I would have penetrated and understood a little more than I do now. But then I was less than the main character of the film, and I would not understand her either. This is a paradox.
So we see:
1. A 50-year-old autistic killer who is also a pedophile, albeit in a hidden form. In the mid-90s, he does not know how to read and write, and it is generally unclear how he lived to his years, after all, the 90s did not mean total illiteracy, and primary education was available to everyone.
2. An 11-year-old little slut who smokes nonstop and is not attached to anyone but her little brother. Most likely, if he stayed alive, her attachment would eventually disappear as soon as he grew up - the girl is tied solely to herself and her experiences, that she has the world around her? Her emotions (it is the emotions of the heroine, not the actress, oddly enough) around this situation look fake, as if she does not feel anything at all. She is not bad, she does not hurt, but the brother was killed and we should take revenge, and then what a surprise – a real killer lives next door, what a coincidence!
3. A drug cop from the DEA. However, this line was played flawlessly and in the 90s it was all too close.
Now, at the end of 2020, watching this movie is weird. The love line between a 50-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl. And this girl smokes endlessly. And as a hero, we are presented with a pedophile killer, like, he's a good guy, because the others are much worse! And he teaches the girl "good" things - to survive in this world, that is, just kill using different types of weapons.
This is the hero of our time turned out: killer, autistic, pedophile, infantile ...
Probably from the position of the 90s it is really a good film about how it was. The lawlessness that took place not only in France, but throughout the world. About corrupt cops. The fact that the killer is the same work as, for example, a janitor, and he also in a sense cleanses this world.
But again, it's sick to watch it now. You can’t switch the brain to something that was different then and then it was normal because it’s always abnormal.
And what he does in the top 10 best films, I also do not understand. I guess I'd rather keep surprising people that yes, I haven't seen Leon yet!
