Not Mada-what, a Gascar! Immediately after coming out and watching it, Madagascar became one of my favorite cartoons. It is difficult to say why and why, and do not really want to understand this, but the fact remains that this creation of DreamWorks I am always pleasant and interesting to review, so I do not regret those today I spent half an hour on the revision of the cartoon.
As usual, I will start with the script, ideas and characters.
At first glance, all of today’s fashionable animated cartoons do not differ from each other and look the same, but I will immediately draw my attention to one of the unusualities of Madagascar – the number of main characters, because usually used already proven and reliable trinity.
I think the 4 main characters symbolize different types of people’s temperaments. Lev Alex is a born leader, a real “king of beasts”, undoubtedly a sanguine and, perhaps, a bit conservative, we are somewhat similar. Our monochrome friend, Marti’s zebra, is similar in all respects to the sometimes unbalanced and hot choleric. Hippopotamic Gloria is an unflappable phlegmatic. And, of course, in the suspicious Melman giraffe, the sensitive melancholic is most easily recognized. Looking at the excellent compatibility of the incompatible characters of the heroes, one should only marvel and try to learn from them such a strong community.
Despite all the riot of colors in the show of the main characters, the creators did not forget not only about secondary, but even about episodic characters. All of them are colorful, as far as the plot allows. For example, monkeys delight at every appearance, although the characters are passable. The scenes with the arrogant king of lemurs Julian and his henchman, the tired Maurice, paint only at first glance a rather unusual friendship. Nor do I ever mind thinking of the uncouth savage foss; the huge spider that is remembered only by the cries of "Battle!" Beat!; a fighting old lady named Aunt; yes, a bad worker of the zoo with a gun, which he does not know how to hold.
Naturally, more than one review can not do without mentioning the most favorite heroes of the public - the penguins Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Prapor. And I am always delighted with their episodes, to take at least their maneuvers, which always leave me with the impression of “Mission: Impossible” (but there it’s all serious), or their grandiose tenacity in achieving a goal that they have and do not need for free. Perhaps the last person I want to remember will be my favorite minor character, lemur Mort (oh, good name), who was able to bribe me with his “Aha!”
Speaking in general about the plot, first of all, I want to say that this cartoon is an excellent collection of jokes, anecdotes, funny situations, parodies, quotes that are not ashamed to say at any successful event, and all this is not stupid American or little understandable English humor, but what will be pleasant, interesting and appropriate for every person, whether an adult or a child. Naturally, no animated cartoon can do without tragic moments, after which it usually follows morally, but this part in Madagascar, as for me, is minimized and is only present as a tribute to the genre, so that children can learn a valuable lesson from this cartoon and, moreover, become sad.
The cartoon, in my opinion, is a great example of when a little angular, implausible and outdated at the moment graphics do not spoil the overall impression of the tape, but even gives it some uniqueness and some special flavor.
Hans Zimmer once again did not let the viewer down and provided the picture with high-quality and appropriate musical content. And, of course, do not forget about the already well-known songs, the use of which only made Madagascar even more native people. And also, seeing on television recently the video for the song “I like to move it!” I realized absolutely for sure – this song I like exclusively performed by Sacha Baron Cohen, the right voice for him.
Also, I am convinced that the cartoon would not have had such popularity if not for a good and thoughtful (which is extremely rare) translation. Although the roles were voiced by celebrities, I don’t see much trouble in this, how I turned out to be tolerable. However, David Schwimmer, in my opinion, is quite difficult to replace.
“Madagascar” made an indelible impression on me at the time and, apparently, not on me alone, since there were so many attempts to repeat this success. Like two years ago, I usually recommend it to watch, there were no dissatisfied people left. Although I like puppet cartoons more, I will never disdain this tape. Enjoy your visit.
