Alien among the insensitive The most important criterion for assessing the film for me is the feeling of “aftertaste”. And the more interesting it is, the stronger the film, at least stronger and more versatile for me. And the aftertaste is more interesting every day.
Andreas finds himself in a strange place and, of course, almost all of us want to understand the idea of the director – where is he? And why? I don't see this film as a denunciation of our way of life. At least as a Russian, I don’t see it that way. Norway is far from a poor country, so it may be a crooked mirror of their existence for a Norwegian... but only they can know. In the world where I live, there are almost no people who are concerned not only with the material, or rather even with the material. Therefore, this film as a call to pay attention to us practical and soulless, I do not perceive. I don't know where Andreas went and it doesn't matter why. But it is quite clear from the first shots that he is there – superfluous, in general, it is clear already by the title of the film. And all this is filmed in such a way that I feel with every cell that I would be superfluous there and the director leaves no chance to feel anything else. The first scene with a kiss ... disgusting kiss of two young people I have never seen ... from this spectacle is frankly nauseous, sicker than from falling out of the guts of a person who threw himself out of a window, although all these physiological moments in the movie I really do not like. Andreas entered a world without a soul...maybe it really is purgatory or one of the first circles of hell in the director’s vision, where there is everything except children, animals and the soul in the surroundings, even food and objects. And he's doomed to live there with no hope of suicide. All these cold gray-blue tones, this endless indifference of others to everything emotional (scenes of frank conversations with two women, in front of the TV and in the restaurant, are beautiful, usually such scenes are tragic, and here - total indifference on women's faces and complete confusion on Andreas' face), in addition to standard smiles and fake laughs, increase the feeling of inappropriateness, craving something not without a soul, Andreas. This frenzy with which he hits the wall becomes very close... even makes you want to break off and dig with him. And what contempt reflects the cowardice felt by the only one who also misses everything truly human, his temporary partner.
After watching The Inappropriate Man, I have 2 films that intersect with this in 2 main messages. Equilibrium as an example of the impossibility of existence in a world without emotions. And Kin-dza-dza is like a satire of obsessive pursuit of security while ignoring true values. An inappropriate person for me is from the same chain, another successful link.
The acting is good, although, perhaps, to play indifference and lack of emotions is not so difficult, so I want to say bravo, first of all, to the director, well, to the main actor, Trond Faus Aurvaag, whom I am happy to celebrate for myself already for the 2nd time a great game.
The ending is excellent.
