A specific musical When I was going to see this film, I knew absolutely nothing (except for two lines in the newspaper and the actor in the lead role). Therefore, the first shots, frankly, shocked me, in the break for advertising (watched on TV) two words could not connect. But by the end of the film made me like, and the second viewing I just enjoyed.
Plot. In general, it is quite difficult to determine which genre of the film: comedy or parody? I’m more inclined to think that it’s a parody of Elvis Presley’s time, or maybe the legend itself. The school is divided by a wall of misunderstanding into two parts that fundamentally do not communicate with each other: conservatives and bullies. It's about the love that broke through that wall. The leader of the hooligans – Wade “Cry” Walker (it is not difficult to guess – the film about him) and Alison Vernon-Williams, we can say, carried out a global modernization. All this is diluted with regular musical retreats (still a musical). It is quite unusual to watch such an action in our time.
Quality. I liked John Waters’s work, but I don’t like it, although maybe I just didn’t feel it. A few shots - just a look, mostly everything is quite typical, in some places you can and twist, but if you consider what year the film, you can forgive. Music is a separate conversation. Overall, it fits the movie, but I wouldn’t listen to that much. I liked the actors. In my opinion, the role of Blaxa is not quite suitable for Johnny Depp, because he has a stronger role, but do not forget that this is a distant 90 years, and perhaps then, such a role was necessary. In any case, after crying, Depp became an idol of young people, and this fact says something. Amy Lockane, Susan Tyrrell, Polly Bergen, I liked it. Iggy Pop made fun of me. I always remember Hatchet-Face.
Bottom Line: A good, non-stressing parody musical created for relaxation. Although many will disagree with me, I am sure.
