The film is based on the true story of man-eating lions who paralyzed the construction of a railway in the Tsavo River region of Kenya in 1898. When creating the film, the information contained in the book of the real participant of these events, Colonel John Henry Patterson, was used.
Paramount Pictures, the company that produced Ghost and Darkness, originally wanted to shoot most of the film in Kenya, where it actually took place. “The political situation in the country at that time was far from hospitable. This caused the film to move to South Africa.
The role of Colonel Patterson was claimed by other actors, namely Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner. Val Kilmer ended up playing.
It is the only film to feature Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer in a duet.
The film, which despite the release date, looks easy, exciting and dynamic.
The film won the Oscar for best sound editing.
The coolest thing about this movie is nature and lions. A lot of camera work has been done. Sights, close-ups. And the story itself is presented without sagging and script holes.
Very good movie. I recommend watching.
