Hollywood in Japanese My interest in Signal 252 comes from recent events in Japan. The media trumpeted the tragedy of the Land of the Rising Sun, recalling books like The Death of the Dragon, the recently deceased Sakyo Komatsu, and this film that I put on my list of paintings worth watching. And I just wanted to know how the Japanese make disaster films.
At first, there was no sign of disappointment. A severe setup, immediately dipping into the whirlpool of events and leaving no special time for reflection. A small set of actors that does not confuse the minds of people who do not distinguish one oriental person from another. Enough high-quality implementation of graphic effects, such as: clouds, water, wind.
All of this has to do with watching.
However, very soon it became clear that before us a fiery picture filled with emotions, slimmed in Hollywood a little more than completely. Family ties, endless guilt in front of everyone around, constant tantrums, long conversations when events require action, and, of course, the main feature of all Hollywood blockbusters is a huge crowd of people saving three people when there are hundreds, if not thousands, demanding the attention of professional victims.
The number of borrowed stamps exceeds all conceivable limits so that only the genius of focus can withstand more than two hours of viewing without distraction. Everyone else, there is such a suspicion, will begin to yawn or laugh at the naivety of the plot and the miracles that occur on the screen.
It was an unusual film for Asian cinema. Realism gave way to pathos, large-scale tragedy to parochial drama, and psychologism to false speeches about duty and justice.
And after all, the implementation of the film in audiovisual terms is very good. Yes, special effects do not hide their computer accessories, the action takes place in enclosed spaces, and the number of frames with a massive rampage of the elements can be counted on the fingers. But at the same time, all these facts are not irritating at all, since from a Japanese film you expect first of all genuine emotions, drama and the emergence of an acute desire to empathize.
But then, alas, the plot comes into play, which does not leave the picture and a chance for a positive attitude of the viewer.
On the other hand, I will be fair – in difficult times, such as Japan is now experiencing, and with it the whole world, it is necessary to talk about the tragedy, softening the gloomy tones, talking superbly about those who have become heroes, and not concealing the delight of those who were able to escape.
And in this sense, “Signal 252” is a wonderful example of positive cinema, able to give strength to people who survived the invasion of the elements.
