I like the series, which show some communities of people for various reasons divorced from civilization, so I paid attention to the Outside, but the series did not live up to my expectations. The first few episodes raised too many questions that no one was in a hurry to answer. For example, why does the definition ceremony, or whatever it was called, look like that? Why is this pomposity with the stones or what was chosen, why is the decision made at the ceremony so critical? At that point, it seemed to me that I was watching Divergent, whose universe also once in a lifetime is given a choice that determines everything and then cannot be changed. In short, it all looks silly, as if people have nothing else to do but invent deep rituals out of nothing. The narrative seems to begin in the middle: together with the family of the new forced inhabitants of the city, we must gradually explore the already established local community, its order and the underbelly of the relations between its members. Sometimes this technique works well, but in this case, multiple characters with their squabbles and long-standing conflicts simply do not cause interest. It would be much more interesting to observe the first days of this city, to see how it all began, how people just learned to get along with the evil spirits that settled nearby, because the supernatural element of history is still curious, but unfortunately, almost no attention is paid to it. That’s my opinion after watching a few episodes of the first season. Perhaps in later episodes the series still corrected, but I will not know about it.
