"... it is not only in the original products - truffles there, oysters, goose liver, it is simply banal - but in how, what and what is woven with, in combination with the incompatible, in art impossible, in courage and subtlety, in a special, if not, national demon of the Gallic people: combine temperance, stinginess, patience, selfishness, philosophicness, sensibility, whipple with fun for fifteen thousand years - then there will be French cuisine, incomparable with anything." ? Tatiana Tolstoy.
Awesome movie. With my beloved Benoit Majimel.
The film is based on Marcel Ruff’s novel The Life and Passion of Doden Buffan, a gourmet. He won the Cannes Prize in 2023 for Best Director. This is, of course, more of a contemplative dramatic production. The cooking consultant was Pierre Gagnier. As a chef, he was awarded 14 Michelin stars.
As for the semantic load, the film is not as simple as it seems. Here, among the culinary delights, lies the vector of thought and the message of how great it is just to wake up every day, and just to love and create and love the Man who is destined by fate. Here lies the philosophy and worldview of humanity.
It is striking that the director Chang Anh Hung (Vietnamese by birth) shot surprisingly accurate atmosphere – French cinema.
I was watching a very meditative and contemplative film made in 1992, The Flavor of Green Papaya. So I understand the style.
I really liked the movie. Highest score. I highly recommend it.🧣
