A terrible film production based on the biography of the great director. A film about old age in absolute loneliness, where only memories are left that only traumatize. A cruel irony of fate - the creator of the masterpiece adaptation of works about Frankenstein and his monsters, he eventually found himself with a monster in his head. One of the reasons for loneliness is also the unconventional orientation of the director. The arrival of a young gardener, a retired Marine with a similarly stupid past, excites the old man’s feelings and he tries to spend as much time as possible in the company of the last man in his entourage. Between the characters are tied up strange relationship. The old man sometimes behaves sometimes obnoxious, sometimes disgusting, but it causes mainly only sympathy. His character McKelen did extremely well. Behind all the antics, you can clearly see the despair of a person trapped in his life. A powerful climax and a cute epilogue add more points to this film. P.S. Interestingly, unlike the sensational Humpback Mountain, homosexuals are shown here much more normally and adequately.
