“Crash” is more of a thriller than a detective, since we see what is happening both through the eyes of the main character and through the eyes of a maniac. Sometimes it even seems that the second in the frame more. The investigation is not taking place in a vacuum - the police department is mired in corruption and political intrigue. All this with a national flavor - the heroine-English locals do not like, and in general the local inhabitants do not trust the police too much, preferring to solve their problems themselves. So the hunt for a maniac story is not exhausted.
The main character, Stella (Gillian Andreson) is a typical feminist, passionate about work. Her attitude to life (including personal life) is more masculine than feminine – she meets men for one evening, spends the night at work, prefers loneliness, etc. Needless to say, she is passionate about the investigation just fanatically.
The maniac, Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) , in appearance is not so terrible. At first, his daily behavior and, especially, professional activities are confusing: it is difficult to believe that this exemplary family man and a psychologist who really helps people as entertainment in his spare time strangles brunette careerists of a certain age. But with each series it becomes more and more clear - before us a monster in human form, hypocritical, cunning.
The plot does not adhere to the beaten cliches of the genre and twists that provide theatrical effect. The investigation goes on as usual, the maniac hides and “flirts” with the police – everything is quite realistic and convincing.
Well, not all. As for the maniac, there is one small minus - it turned out too perverse. And the fetishist, and voyeur, and corpses gives an aesthetic appearance, and photographs, and paints. A collection of perversions, and this is not a complete list yet. Can a man have so many cockroaches in his head at the same time? And also such typical movie and literary maniacs? Perhaps it would still be worth reducing the list of forbidden hobbies of Mr. Spector, exaggerated some maniac turned out in the end. Although the efforts of the actor, nevertheless, the image will be elevated to a decent level.
The name is intriguing: who is destined to fall? And, although, as I wrote, the creators of the series did not sacrifice realism for the sake of fun, still, the series looks with interest. Stella and her opponent, who were the exact opposite at the beginning of the series, eventually seem to attract, and reveal their hidden similarity. She is a shocking and sociopathic defender of justice, he is a charming and modest monster. But the more the plot develops, the more Stella shows humanity and seems more vulnerable, and Spector, on the contrary, becomes more cynical and angrier. And yet their mutual hatred looks like love - they are drawn to compete as predators-competitors in the wild, to find out who is the real predator of the stone jungle.
Summary: a good psychological thriller about the confrontation between the investigator and the maniac. Atmospheric, exciting and not too template.
