What happens when people don’t think about the consequences? I decided that after “Don’t Look Up,” it was time to get to another acclaimed director-writer work by Adam McKay. And she didn't disappoint me.
The plot here is very similar to "Don't look up." Some people find a catastrophe approaching that others refuse to acknowledge. In the case of the “Game of Downgrades”, it is an economic crisis. And then the differences begin, the main characters of this film do not try (they would not be able, with all their desire) to warn everyone about this and prevent an economic catastrophe. They're trying to make money off it.
And it turns out a very interesting movie about people who are able to look a little deeper than the established public opinion and draw their own conclusions.
This film is filled with economic terms that are incomprehensible to the average viewer. And the filmmakers, realizing this, try to explain the complex terminology in interesting ways. Sometimes the film is interrupted by stars who play themselves and explain what is going on in simple language. After that, most of the terms remain unclear, but at least it becomes clear what the characters are trying to do, and what causes their reactions. In general, even without the possession of economic knowledge, the film is fascinating and does not let you get bored.
In the "Game of Downgrades" there are good acting jobs. Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and other actors look very interesting and convincing, I believed them. But, of course, this film is not about characters. I can't say that I had a lot of sympathy for any of them. Because the characters here are initially quite successful people, and you as a viewer understand that the crisis will happen, and the characters will get rich from this.
"Game down" is not about that. It is, first of all, about the impending and absolutely inevitable crisis, which people themselves have created because of their greed and bad faith. And the film makes you feel it. You realize how much people don’t think about the consequences of their actions. And the fact that even seemingly experts in the field, who should understand it best, actually understand little and rely on the once established opinion.
As a result, it is a dynamic film with good acting work, interesting scripting and directing techniques, about the fact that a person understands very little about the things that he himself invented. I would recommend watching.
