I watched Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris' 2006 film Little Miss Sunshine a long time ago, and I really liked it. So when I saw that this married couple of directors made a new film “Battle of the Sexes”, 2017, I decided to watch it. The film is based on the real situation that arose in the early 70s, when the American tennis player 29-year-old Billie Jean King, repeated winner of Wimbledon and champion of America first spoke for equal treatment of female tennis players who received for their matches ten times less rewards than men, and then responded to the challenge of 55-year-old Bobby Riggs, in the past also Wimbledon champion, and now a gambler, claiming that he will defeat any woman. But he lost. There is nothing so special in this film and all this preparation for the fight and the fight itself is shown quite standardly. Well-chosen lead actors Emma Stone and Steve Carell, really somewhat similar to their characters and playing quite well in light of their tasks. I suspect that the film was made to once again shuffle a leg in the direction of political correctness, because the main character suddenly woke up lesbian tendencies, although she was married. I wonder if there won’t be any films that don’t touch on the subject. Little Miss Sunshine is definitely not a movie.
