Deserves to be "Fantasy" Having stumbled somewhere on the Internet on the interesting title of the Disney cartoon “Girl with Matches” and finding out that this is a short film, I awoke curiosity, and I decided to look at this cartoon. I can say with confidence that I did not waste time on it, perhaps this is one of the three short films of Hollywood that I remember and loved.
I always get confused when I try to describe the plot of a short film, perhaps because when you tell the action, you tell what was supposed to be seen in the depths of the cartoon. So I won't say much. This is probably a beautiful fairy tale by Andersen, and I think for those who know the work of this storyteller, it will not be surprising that the story has a sad ending. Of course, this can scare many people away, but I personally think that in this case this is the only true end that retains the spirit and philosophy of this work.
Perhaps the drawing is not always accurate and appropriate, but this does not prevent you from enjoying the cartoon and its sharp contrasts, which very successfully show us snow-covered Russia of the early twentieth century in watercolor tones. The atmosphere is painfully familiar to me and clearly resembles the work of director Tim Burton. I can’t help but remember the music that fascinates and, I think, due to it, the cartoon, in which not a word is spoken, looks in one breath.
This is a wonderful short story that I think everyone should see. And despite the sad ending, after watching the film, there is a strange warmth on the soul and the craving to review this tape again.
