(Japanese 久保 帯人 Kubo Taito?, /taɪtoʊ/), real name Noriaki Kubo (Japanese 久保 宣章 Kubo Noriaki?) is a mangaka, creator of the Blich manga. Often there are erroneous variants of writing his pseudonym, for example: Tite Kubo, Kubo Tait, Kubotayt, Kubotaito, Kubotite, Tait Kubo.
Taito Kubo was born on June 26, 1977 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. In an interview, he said that he once decided to participate in a competition held by Shonen Jump magazine, did not win, but received a call from one of the editors who offered to cooperate. In 1996, Shonen Jump released Taito Kubo's first short manga, Ultra Unholy Hearted Machine.
Kubo's first major work was the fantasy manga Zombie Powder, published in 1999 in Shonen Jump. Zombie Powder did not gain much popularity, and after the release of four volumes, the publication was suspended. However, the manga “Blich” appeared in the same magazine, which became very famous. More than 7 million copies have been sold.
There is a myth that “Blich” at first did not want to publish: according to the editor, it was too similar to Yu Hakusho, a famous manga that appeared in the same Shonen Jump in the nineties. Taito Kubo was so upset that he decided to end his manga career, but Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, noticed Blich and sent Kubo a letter asking him not to lose heart, but to continue working. However, there are no reliable sources confirming the existence of such a letter.
In 2005, Blich won the Shogakukan Publishing Award for Best Shōnen Manga. [5] Kubo also designed the characters for the anime version of Bleach (which mangaki don’t usually do)[6] and voiced a plush lion named Cohn in OVA’s Bleach – Memories in the Rain.
