The film is about the previously untold story of the bloody battle of the 8th Air Force against the German Luftwaffe in the months leading up to D-Day. The story comes from the first person of 3 pilots and war correspondent Andy Rooney. Real-life color footage, which has not previously been shown, features B-17s Flying Fortresses, P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang. Video footage of the 8mm film indicates devastation following the German raids and the prospect of the collapse of the Luftwaffe. Flying 25,000 feet above the ground in oxygen-deprived air and 50 degrees below zero, the 8th VA waged a war never before seen. By the end, they had suffered 26,000 casualties, more than the U.S. Marines who died in World War II. close
