Alexei Pobortsev’s film is an attempt to get closer to understanding the “Chechen problem”, to find the origins of the terrible war. The film includes unique testimonies of the participants of the events of those years and interviews with politicians and generals - with those who made the main decisions, on whom depended, how the situation around Chechnya would develop. One of the key figures of the time - Dzhokhar Dudayev - appears before us in the memories of people who are well acquainted with the rebellious general. The film uses footage from private archives never before shown on television. Episode 1. Why did everything swing... The declaration on the state sovereignty of Chechnya was adopted under the communist leadership of the republic. And no one in Moscow or Grozny imagined how independence would turn out. In 1991, retired General Dzhokhar Dudayev was elected president of Chechnya. In the same year, the federal government attempted to declare a state of emergency. Meanwhile, after the robbery of the secret downturns of UT, the supporters of the new president fall into the hands of weapons and ammunition for an entire regiment. Episode 2. The number of Russian banks in Chechnya in different ways received billions of rubles. With this money, Dudayev created his own armed forces.
