Hero of our time The screen adaptation of the most brilliant comics "Kick-ass" has all the prerequisites to become the most crazy and cool comic book in history. Combining the new-fangled tendencies of cruel realism, where there are no superpowers and every gopnik strives to put on a knife, the film follows all the canons of the formation of superhero cinema, approaching at the same time all this with humor and open geek banter.
From the first minutes of the film, the cult “Is this a bird?” Is that a plane? It's Superman!, in a barely discernible voice from retro-era radio, while the visual series presents the filmmakers flying across the sky in letters. The classic hero of Hollywood stories “from dirt to princes” – a school loser named Dave voiceover tells about himself and his friends, asking one single thought – why in a world where everyone knows about superheroes perfectly well, no one even tries to become the same? And the question is posed with an absolutely precise accent, not "why there are no superheroes in the real world," but "why nobody even tries." Current problems, current world, and where is he the real hero of our time? Dave himself is trying to become the answer, not having any superpower, not being from another planet, and not even standing out among ordinary citizens.
As a result, the film turns out to be a spectacular attraction without censorship, which like a beautiful ringing coin has two sides. On the one hand, we see a great film about modern heroes who have challenged crime, on the other hand, it is an outright banter of Marvel over DC and the modern movement of superhero adaptations with their realism, cruelty and dark atmosphere. Everything that happens on the screen at the same time is very cool and extremely funny. Nicholas Cage in what ages looks posh, getting into the role for all hundred, and the costume, so to speak, “Batman” he is extremely suited. However, the main attraction of the film is still an eleven-year-old girl Mindy performed by Chloe Moretz, who famously cuts bandits into a bloody salad, shoots accurately, managing to do stunning tricks, and swears like a shoemaker. The spectacle again turns out to be incredibly cool, and at the same time so funny that it is such scenes that cut into memory and cause the most powerful delight.
The blood here is not just flowing river, it is whipping with great pressure. People explode in furnaces, crushed in landfills, in the frame regularly shot heads and slit throats, but the direction of Matthew Vaughn does not savor all these details, as could unfold their imagination, say, Rodriguez and Tarantino. Therefore, in comparison with the original comic, the level of violence is noticeably lower, as is the visual presentation of the carnage. But nevertheless, everything available, arranged with powerful and impressive action scenes, makes an incredibly strong impression and is very pleasing to the eye.
Even with disagreements with the original source, this movie can be safely called the best adaptation of comics at the moment, as well as the most magnificent film about superheroes. Configured to meet various requirements, it is able to satisfy the tastes of both fans of the maximum realism of the universe, and fans of impressive fiction and exciting unreal action. And although, of course, the geek audience of the film will be even more fun and understandable, the simple viewer of such a movie should also certainly taste. I want to hope not just for the continuation, but that there will be more truly heroic R-rated comic films and Kick-ass will set the right vector in this direction. The potential can be revealed further, the benefit even after such a drive show there is still gunpowder in the powder boxes and this real masterpiece should forever go down in the history of cinema!
