The coolest dances in movies The story is as old as the world, probably now can not count its adaptations, but the best in my opinion is this one. West Side Story. There is a war of the streets between two groups, not for life, but for death, and just at this moment the best friend of the leader of one gang and the sister of the leader of the other gang meet at the dance, and this is just at this moment they fall in love.
Romeo and Juliet have been filmed many times. But no one has done it as gracefully as this director (?). From the very first shot, it becomes clear that this is an unusual film. And the first ten minutes generally pass as a theatrical performance (when two gangs meet on the street and in the rhythm of dance, like fighting each other), it looked very cool, if they were not dispersed by the cops who ruined the whole show. The script, in my opinion, is the weakest part of the film. Everyone already knows how everything will develop there, and here, for example, in the modern film adaptation of Romeo + Juliet, although time was transferred to our time, but everything happened exactly according to the story, without departing a step. And since I watched R+D before West Side Story, I thought it would be something like that before I saw it. But no. There are many significant differences from the original. Yes, of course, there is the death of Mercutio, only under a different name, and the tragic finale (which, by the way, was completely remade (which I am very happy about (because the scene with poison would not have approached this film in principle, but as they did, in the end it looked great).
As in any musical, there should be great songs and well-staged dances. If the first one is more or less, then the second one is just gorgeous. And the beginning of the film I have already mentioned is completely masterful. If the whole movie were like that, there would be no price. The scenes in the nightclub are wonderful. And I really liked the scene of choral singing, when both gangs went to the shooter. So many interweaving voices, well-done camera duties and, voila, the best scene of the film is ready.
If this movie were just a movie and not a movie adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, I would have liked it a lot more. I, in principle, do not digest this story, and then many times watched its various adaptations, the topic turned out to be too obliterated for me. But otherwise, the film is just wonderful.
