It would seem that an ordinary melodrama, a classic love triangle, which is viewed and revised, and life is seen and revisited, and you look with interest, still much in the movie depends on who and how he shot it. The film is black and white. The main character of the film Pierre Lachnet (Jean Desaily) is a quite successful and wealthy publisher, writer and lecturer, whom many know, who often travels with his lectures even abroad, during one of these trips he meets a pretty flight attendant Nicole (Françoise Dorleac), who also drew attention to him. Despite the fact that at first it seems to us that he has a happy marriage, in which his beloved daughter grows up, Pierre begins a hasty affair with Nicole. Not being trained in such matters, he does not cope very well, how to say, with organizational issues, so the novel does not have time to grow, Frank’s wife (Nelli Benedetti) quickly begins to suspect him, the marriage begins to crack at the seams, Pierre does not much resist this, since the marriage, apparently, was not as good as they tried to portray it. Starting to make plans with Nicole, he discovers that she had no serious intentions towards him. But then there is a small unforeseen event that leads to a completely tragic outcome. As you can see, it is difficult to call the plot original, they say that some of the events depicted were autobiographical, it is good that without such a denouement, moreover, Pierre's apartment in the film was the apartment of François Truffaut himself, but it was shot interestingly, including from the purely visual side, despite the c/b format, a lot of attention is paid to color, and we pay attention to this in the most unexpected places - for example, Pierre watches out of the window, how a car leaves Nicole, and we see a white track on the road, in many places the author draws our attention to the color - that white. I liked the movie, but it wasn’t Truffaut’s best.
