Mother Goose... Ralph Nelson is a completely unknown director to me. I have never seen any of his films.
Yes, and the plot of the film I was not particularly attracted . So I only relied on the fact that one of my favorite actors, Cary Grant, is in the film. To be honest, the film exceeded my expectations, at least in terms of the script for sure. Walter Christopher is tricked into coming to the island to work as a secret agent. He has to report all the planes that are flying past him. He doesn't like this job, so he grumbles all day. The authorities were tired of it, so they found a replacement for him, but on the condition that he himself would have to bring him to this island. But when our hero sails for him, it turns out that he died after the bombing, and on the island in addition to him is a teacher with her students. And now our Walter brings all this fun company to the island, where he is waiting for a lot of adventures.
As I said before, I liked the film in the script plan.
Military comedies are not shot very often, and almost every one of them is a small event. As you know, Cary Grant from any film can make a comedy, just as here, almost all humor is created with his participation.
This picture reminds me a lot of the movie "Operation "lower skirt", all with the same Grant. But unlike that movie, this
is less insightful than that one. There was so much subtle humor, funny moments, even that pink submarine immediately caused laughter, but it is worth admitting that in this film the topic is much more serious. If it could be attributed to the category of adventure, then
this is probably already one hundred percent military film. Like I said, the movie is famous for Cary Grant. He played a great role in the film, a kind of robber drunken sailor, always ready ... to lie down rather than go into battle. There were many funny moments with his participation, as a result of which a comic atmosphere was created.
The movie certainly left a very good impression on me. Cary Grant fans are definitely worth a look. I will say even more that the Oscar for best original script was given quite deservedly.
