A high-quality scam is akin to art This is a story about a criminal, but a very kind and naive man with a wounded soul and a broken heart.
Frank's a kid. Very smart, amazingly resourceful, but still a child. His parents divorced when he was sixteen. It’s not uncommon, it’s so common now... Yeah, but it's rare for a kid to run away from home after that. For Frank, the divorce of his parents was a great shock, greatly affecting the psyche. As Freud said, “All our complexes are formed in childhood.” This tragedy goes through the life of the main character, and no matter what he did: forged checks, diplomas, deceived people; all this was for the sole purpose of finding a family again, feeling loved again and someone needed. That's why Frank called Carl every Christmas. I paraphrase Dostoevsky: “It is necessary that every person at least someone can call.”
Play actors at a height: the characters are interesting, the characters are clearly drawn. Especially pleased with the realistic onset of insanity and a slight touch of schizophrenia, turning into paranoia against the background of eternal stress performed by Christopher Walken.
As a conclusion: the film is pleasant and touching; it makes an impression, despite the fact that for Spielberg this creation does not fit into the usual framework of the genre.
