A film about survival, curiosity and gaining the trust of strangers. I don't like westerns, but I did.
I got the image of a wolf. At first, it seems that it will be a significant part of the story. But in the end, you realize that his role is symbolic. Each time the wolf shows at what level the main character’s relationship with strangers is. Really beautiful decision, no wonder Oscar for the script was given.
I looked at 3 sets (due to the length of the film). In fact, the plot retains attention well, just almost 4 hours in a row to watch a bit difficult, when used to the timing of the series. Despite the overall drama, a lot of light humor. Excellent camera work and a variety of scenes of nature. Fascinatingly conveyed the entourage of life and culture of the Indians. The film sometimes looks like popular science, especially since the main character keeps a diary, and periodically we hear his impressions about everything.
A bit controversial for me was the climax, where the main character has to choose a side, but is acting quite brutish in my opinion. But maybe this is the success of the plot, its logical completion.
