A film from a rather rare genre is a forensic American comedy My Cousin Vinny (1992), directed by Jonathan Lynn. The director is British, but he did quite a lot in Hollywood, this time. Two young guys went in their car on a trip to America and it had to happen that they had a story in Alabama, as a result of which they were no less than accused of murdering a salesman in a store where they actually stopped to buy food and from where one of them took a can of tuna without paying for it. At first, they thought it was about this theft and confessed, but then it turned out that the charge is much more serious. They were arrested and had to look for a lawyer, one of the guys Billy Gambini (R. Maccio) called his mother and she reminded him that they had a lawyer in the family - cousin Winnie Gambini (Joe Pesci), who soon came from New York with his fiancée Mona Lisa (Marisa Tomei). However, it soon turned out that he seems to be not quite a lawyer, since he has never been to court, passed the exam with the sixth time and does not understand anything about it. The prosecution, however, was fussed, there were also witnesses who “saw” everything and the guys “recognized”, and the case went to trial by jury. After the first sessions, in which the lawyer got from the judge both for his appearance and behavior, besides he brazenly lied to him about his experience and even name, which could at any moment swim out, the guys were already dull and one of them even hired a free lawyer, from whom there was no sense. But then events began to unfold in a slightly unexpected way and the greatest help was unexpectedly provided by the bride Vinnie, who was well versed in everything related to cars. The case almost miraculously managed to win, and Vinnie tried to quickly get his legs out of there so as not to get caught himself. The film is not bad, such a comedy in the old style, Joe Pesci played well, and Marisa Tomei received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The director chose the topic not by chance, he is a lawyer by training, so he laughed with knowledge of the case at the judicial system and its servants.
