For all the stupidity of the plot - for a viewer accustomed to (social)realism in film art - this film with some touch of Christmas leafiness has its charm. A good heroine who saved Edward from loneliness, a bright character is a young American provincial lady who tried to seduce poor Edward. The film is interestingly shot, somewhat resembling a cartoon: large colored (up to bright “acid”) spots without shades, there are almost no extra objects in the frame, blue sky – perhaps just a feature of life in the southern American states with deserts.
Released in 1990, this film escaped from the shelling of Soviet film critics, specializing in exposing the spirituality, immorality, meaninglessness and inferiority of cinema in the capitalist world of purity, filmed for the demand of an undetectable public: a film with such a self-revelatory title and the main character with scissors instead of hands - also a participant, although he did not give erotic pleasures - would be a suitable target.
