The Great Patriotic War. Karlis, the son of the Latvian peasant Petertale, defected to the enemy. And when Alda’s dacha sheltered a wounded Soviet paratrooper in the culprit, his father was pleased: the Red Army would return – there would be something to justify. When Karlis returned to the farm, the Germans raided. In a fit of fear, Petertale and his son, killing the young man, walled up the corpse in the oven. Alda loses his mind, and the peasant’s house is threatened with exposure. After the war, ten years of fear pass, and finally the hour of retribution arrives. . .
