Sounds to me. The film is not as bad as many people write about it, even rather good, for one or two viewings (which, however, I did), followed by its revision, in a year or two.
This is not horror, as indicated in the genres, but rather a teenage thriller (and is designed for viewing for the most part by teenagers, since it is based on the works of a writer who, as far as I know, writes horror films just for children and adolescents).
I want to clarify a little bit why I think this movie is a thriller rather than a horror movie, and I share the two genres, although many people identify and don’t see much difference.
At
my look, the genre of the thriller (as far as I know, translated from Aglitsky, as "tremble", although I am not sure) - aims no longer to scare, but to keep in suspense, to guess what will happen next, to create a tense situation, often with an unexpected outcome, and quite often combined with the genre of detective. And
most importantly it is focused on people, there are no otherworldly forces or infernal monsters. Although there are exceptions, such as (again, only in my opinion) the series “Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Friday the 13th”, although they have “monsters”, more are thrillers, although most are considered “horror classics”.
The horror genre is aimed at scaring out on the viewer all sorts of ugly monsters, ghosts, otherworldly forces (all kinds of “Calls”, “Curses” and so on), or people who long and thoroughly turn into real monsters (for example, in the Italian film “Demons” in 1985, which detailed the transformation of people into “really terrible monsters”, I remember how in childhood I was very afraid of them, and it was really scary).
Now, if you go back to the movie, for a teenage thriller, it's not bad. I’m not a master of painting a plot, and looking at it under a magnifying glass, as many people do who leave their opinions on films, but the essence of it boils down to this.
In a nutshell, as a result of certain events, two groups of teenagers from rival schools and cities get into a small car accident, as a result of which, one heroine receives a cut injury, and during her wanderings in the woods, her blood falls on the grave of a certain “witch”, as a result of which, this “witch” “comes to life”, which leads to the fact that the “greatest killers of the past” from urban legends also come to life. Who begin to hunt for the one who “awakened” them, and at the same time for the formed group of her “friends” and acquaintances, among which “spoiler” her “former” . Yes, there is a "spoiler" here, and unlike most commentators who write "wow, wow, I like movies with "spoiler" lesbians and wlw, as it is now fashionable to write, relationships, and if they are also happy, then generally good. Unlike the generally accepted relationship of "muschina" (no, not a typo) - "woman", these films are more interesting, aesthetic
(in love scenes). /spoiler>, and nice. Unlike spoiler, which turns me out and pulls me to puke, or the generally accepted normal "hetero relations" ("spoiler" after wlw-movies and TV series, watch movies with traditional relationships , I no longer want, and not pleasantly, I want to take a metal pipe and eat an asshole rolling his eggs to a girl).
And then, this group of teenagers is trying to figure out what the hell is going on here, trying to survive, fight back, and finish it all. But it's not that simple. After the "successful" finale, there is a hint of a continuation. And...
Yes, this film has two full-length sequels, as it is a trilogy linked by a common plot (not always) and characters (also not always).
And these sequels are very unfortunate... both in the quality of the plot and interest.
The second film tells us the backstory of one of the minor characters. I think it should be the first movie, but... How dull and boring he is, this backstory did not give up to anyone (except the characters of the film), almost all the characters are other, uninteresting and boring, and somewhere even repulsive.
The third film, most of the time, shows an even older backstory to the mythology of this film, from which it supposedly began. And although it is a little better than the second, it is also boring, in terms of the plot, and by and large is not necessary (or you could make everything somehow more interesting).
Bottom line: this movie can be played
6/7 out of 10.
