The Franco-Swiss film “To be!”/Presque (in translation – Almost), 2021, directed by Bernard Campan and Alexander Jollen, who participated in the writing of the script, and also played both main roles – Louis and Igor. The scenario is not very complicated, we see two single men who are unexpectedly brought together by fate in the form of an accident. Undertaker Louis (Bernard Campan) knocks a courier with Igor’s cerebral palsy, this begins their acquaintance, which then develops into a friendly relationship, which neither of them seems to have expected. Interesting in the film are the characters, Louis is such a not very talkative middle-aged man, of course, and his occupation is such that he does not have easy communication, but also the character, Igor is a man with cerebral palsy under forty, working as a courier for the delivery of organic vegetables and fruits, still living with his mother, having no friends, but very well-read, and knows the work of famous philosophers. It is also interesting that some details of Igor’s biography are gleaned from the biography of Alexander Jollen, who is not an actor at all, but a philosopher and writer, such as, for example, upbringing in a boarding school for children with cerebral palsy, however, Jollen himself had a family and even three children, however, then he felt himself a homosexual, which ended quite badly for him, since one of his partners accused him of violence, which he categorically denied. A negative role here was played by the so-called cybersex, which there are slight hints in the film. In principle, the film is not bad, although not very original, watched effortlessly.
