A film that is praised and admired. On the Internet, there are serious opinions that people have reviewed it 10 times and experienced challenging difficulties with understanding it. I did not experience any difficulties, everything is clear, including the fact that the film is simply missing a significant part of the content, as well as the motivation of all the characters except the hero.
This film is a classic case of how the author himself became entangled in his graphomania. Not that I didn’t get interested in watching it, but there’s no need to review it. Obviously, the author himself does not know what he put up. While there was only one assumption in the film - the hero forgets everything, but conducts an investigation thanks to notes - everything went well. But then these assumptions went one by one, turning what was happening into a circus with horses and completely destroying the trust of the viewer:
There are two people in the film with the same rare disease. One could view it karmically: the hero received the same illness for not helping the sufferer. But in the end, we are told that Sammy was a fake and did not experience personal tragedy. But then it destroys one of the character's initial attitudes.
- Two boogie masked men broke into someone else's house to rape a woman, they had it quietly for a while. But this is nonsense, rape is not a robbery, it is not worth such an organized operation.
The wife, it turns out, survived this scene and died of an insulin overdose. But the hero doesn’t remember that she had diabetes, even though this is the time before his injury, and he should remember that. But he remembers the fatal injection, which was already after the injury, and which he could not remember.
An ex-cop manipulates a nerd to kill mobsters and take their money. Is this an effective scheme? If you were an unclean cop, would you accomplice a lunatic who is not friends with reality?
The hero for some reason removes a prostitute to create an imitation of a stormy night. Why? You could just as well do it for real or not at all. This is the most unnecessary scene in the film.
In general, it's fucking porridge. The author did not give many answers because he did not know them himself. Nolan is a very overrated director.

In this early film, Nolan already sees his author's handwriting - uncomplicated, combined with claims to intellectuality and his characteristic motive of illusion, the substitution of reality, which will then find a continuation in his further works: partly in "The Prestige" and especially in "The Beginning".

What happens to a person who cannot remember recent events? Anything. Or, more precisely, anyone who “reminds” him of something. The difference between objective reality and our senses is what makes Nolan a director. But the problem of falsification of reality, which received a more complete development in the 2010 film “Inception”, is only outlined here – “Remember” is, “in the dry residue”, a fairly standard criminal thriller with a slight touch of paranoia, characteristic, however, for the genre. And the topic, in our era of information wars, is relevant and graceful.

Summary: A criminal story in which the form of presentation clearly defeated the content. A dark detective puzzle, the assembly of which is not a pity to spend time, but the process is more interesting than the result.
