Jules Dassen's film Du rififi chez les hommes (1955) Not without interest. After five years in prison, Tony (Jean Servais) is not a very young thief, and he has nothing to do, so he spends time playing poker. He maintains a relationship with his former young accomplice Jo (Carl Meuner), who once did not surrender, for which he was imbued with a sense of gratitude, he is attached to his five-year-old son Jo. At the same time, he hatches a plan to take revenge on his ex-girlfriend, who has contacted a famous crook and drug dealer, somehow he finds her, leads her to himself, there punishes her by whipping her with a belt, and then kicks her out. After some time, he has a plan to rob a jewelry store, for which he collects a small group, which, in addition to them with Jo, includes two more Italians - Mario (Robert Manuel) and Caesar (in this role he starred Jules Dassen), who specially comes from Milan, he is considered the best specialists in opening safes. They develop a well-thought-out and calculated plan of robbery, the implementation of which is shown to us in almost real time. The robbery is successful, but after it everything begins to crumble, and again the human factor is to blame for everything, that was not necessary for Caesar to make rash actions, following the lead of his passions. The end is tragic, albeit with a bright spot in the form of saving a child. The film, of course, is not a masterpiece, but those interested in the work of Jules Dassen, who for this film received a prize in Cannes as the best director, you can see, for his time the film is very good, the director in the film refused all the then stamps of French cinema in this genre.
