Excellent film. When a director makes a denouement that goes against the viewer’s expectations, he expects the viewer to be disappointed, but he will still like it. Very risky move. (Ask David Fincher). Hopper took a chance, and although it turned out great, the rental failed. The staging is excellent. In some places it seems that you are standing on the street of this hot backwater in the South of America. Movie language is also involved, which is especially nice. Plus, Hopper introduced us to antiheroes. There is no need for them (with some exceptions), and why. Central to the conflict, which consists of the passions of each hero. And since the passions are not funny, the conflict is severe. A suffocating, provincial city shades the souls of the heroes. Only in such a place could they exist. This is a real film, whether you agree with the director or not, sympathize with the characters or not. The only question is whether or not the viewer likes this genre.
