Krzysztof Zanussi's next film is Kontrakt, 1980. Having watched several of his films at short intervals, I can say that the style is already recognizable. And again about people and about their not always plausible, and often unworthy actions. The film begins with the moment of marriage in the registry office between the girl Lilka (Magdalena Yarosh) and the guy Peter (Krzysztof Kolberger), where relatives and acquaintances come. Lilka’s father is late, the ceremony took place without him, but he is reassured that tomorrow the wedding will take place in the church. Peter, instead of spending an evening with his wife, goes to his friend, where he once again gets drunk and shows up to his father’s house, where Lilka, drunk, has already arrived. There is no special love between the young, Lilka is generally in doubt whether they should have married, could continue to live together. However, everything goes according to the plan, until Lilka escapes from the church literally at the time of the wedding. Guests and groom are confused, but the father of the groom Adam (Tadeusz Lomnicki) invites everyone to his home, the party will take place no matter what. And then everything goes to hell. It turns out a lot of unsightly things about some people, the groom will commit, once again getting drunk, a terrible act, and in the end we see the main participants in the events - these are essentially unhappy people, despite the fact that some of them (for example, the father of the groom) have reached a good position and are kind of famous people. I can’t say that I liked the film much, I liked his other films more, but still it’s not bad, the actors are good, people do so much in their lives that you can make an infinite number of films about it. What people will never learn is how to be happy.
