A film by Pavel Pawlikowski, a Polish film director working in the UK, about the fate of a remarkable Russian writer and the phenomenon of life in the USSR through the eyes of a Western European. In the last years of his life, Erofeev suffered from an incurable disease - throat cancer, died in Moscow on May 11, 1990. He was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery. The film includes interviews with the writer, his wife Galina, friends, the first secretary of the Petushkin district committee of the CPSU, documentary filming of Soviet life in the early 1990s.
