11-year-old Ai moves to Animal Village in the summer. After Tanukiti sends her to a delivery job, Ai finds four friends among the villagers: Buque, Sally, Alberta, and a human resident named Y. Ai finds a series of anonymous messages in bottles saying that during the upcoming winter festival, a miracle will occur if pines are planted at certain points in the village. Following the instructions, Ai begins to plant trees.
