The film is even more spectacular and even beautiful - this time the style of Hellboy is diluted with classic fantasy: the palace of the king of elves, the troll market (especially pleased), the vault of the Golden Army ... There are also memorable, charismatic characters. The Elven Prince (the main villain) is a typical guest from the “dark fantasy”, elegant, selfish and extremely cruel. Unsurprisingly, unconscious viewers are crazy about him; however, there is nothing special about the character, but for Hellboy he is very unusual. But other members of his family are more curious: The king of the elves ... a real king of the elves, otherwise you can not explain, and his daughter and sister Glavgada plays the role of a model of femininity in the film. Running ahead, as if in opposition to her, Lisa was made a short-cut bitch, manish and screaming, which did not add to her charm. But what else can Hellboy’s girlfriend be?
The main character is still the same - brave, honest and self-confident. But this time Abe will appear in a new capacity - he will have a girlfriend. The team of heroes will also be replenished: its new leader will be a very unusual guest from Germany - apparently, the Germans did not appear in the films about Hellboy exclusively in the birthplace of the Nazis. Well, cyborgs and natives of Germany are now rehabilitated in the eyes of the audience.
It seems that the plot of the film moved even further from the plot of the comic – well, this is the will of the author, because the screenwriter in both incarnations of Hellboy is one. Paradoxically, some points clearly require a better understanding of the Hellboy universe, such as the monologue of the monstrous Angel of Death in a cave. Apparently, the explanations should have been in the third film - but when will it be?
This time, as usual, the film seems to “correct” the morality of the first part. That is, being a tough dude and spit on those who impose their opinion on you is good, but sometimes you can listen to this opinion, suddenly there is a rational grain in it? Yes, and bosses (read - senior, because the film is mostly teenage) are different, one idiot-bureaucrat, and the other - father-taman. For American teenage militants and comedies, such a “softening of sharp corners” in the image of a too “cool hero” seems generally characteristic – to recall at least the trilogy “Back to the Future”.
There is a deeper idea – no matter what you do for society, there will always be people for whom you will be just a freak, an incomprehensible eccentric, a freak. Especially if you do something that others don’t know or fear. It is enough to hate people that you are different, no matter for better or worse deviation.
The result: a good comic book with a fantasy atmosphere, a worthy continuation of the first part.
