The essence of the film: for the sake of high achievements in professional activity, a person has to sacrifice personal happiness (normal family life).
Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) are young losers. Mia is unable to audition for roles in theater and film, and Sebastian is a professional jazz pianist who cannot earn money to open a jazz club due to the unpopularity of jazz itself. Having met, they sincerely help each other overcome the streak of failure, although Mia does not like jazz, and Sebastian is indifferent to theater and cinema.
Impression. I started watching the movie twice. For the first time barely survived and until the end watched the first episode on the highway, where dancers-emigrants gallop on cars, which is a typical scene for a musical. I don't like this genre. I haven't seen the movie since.
Now I've seen it for the second time, even though I hate actress Emma Stone and jazz. I hope there are people who agree with my opinion.
Gosling is the same. It is enough for him to be in the frame, and the scene succeeded. He has something to play on the plot, only spoil the role. Neither Gosling nor Stone can dance well (from nature it is not given), so their dances were given minimally, since in a musical it is impossible without this.
And despite this, the film was successful: the musical was combined with melodrama and showed the truth of life: without personal sacrifices, success does not happen. Strong love can also be a hindrance.
