Korean version of the film "Velvet fingers" ("Fingersmith") 2005 (as always with the wrong translation of the name in the Russian version). And I have to say, in my opinion, a good one, giving a slightly different view of the same story.
As already indicated in the description for the film, it is based on the book by Sarah Waters “Fingersmith” (or “Subtle work”, as it is often translated, apparently a hint that one of the main characters is a thief), according to the same book, the film “Velvet Fingersmith” (2005) was shot. According to the books of the same writer, two more films were shot: "Tipping the velvet" in 2002 ("Touch the Velvet", or again in the "genius" Russian translation "Velvet legs"), and some other, the name now I do not remember.
I really liked both of these movies (in 2016 and 2005).
The 2016 film “Agassi” mostly follows the plot of the 2005 film, repeating it almost one-on-one in the first half, but also has significant differences, somewhere between 30-40%, especially in the second half.
For example, in the 2005 film, in the second part, the maid was sent to the yellow house, and we show her being there and trying to get out, and in parallel show the misadventures of the “lady” who was in London. In the film of 2016, as well as in the second half, the maid and mistress, on the contrary, open up to each other, and begin to act together, and stay in the yellow house is shown slightly.
I was a little confused about one of the final scenes, in which the scoundrel and swindler Count Fujiwara, who is only interested in money, decided to play nobility, and killed himself and the old pervert uncle with cigarettes with mercury. . What the hell is his conscience doing?
However, this did not affect the overall perception of the film. Yes! The theme song in this film is simply amazing!
And more. . The facts of the film indicate that
Even before reading the novel by Sarah Waters “Thin Work”, Park Chang-uk decided to make a film based on it with a happy ending.
So in the 2005 film, the ending is also a good "spoiler" (I haven't read the book, and I don't know what kind of writer she is). Maybe the end of the book is bad? Therefore, the statement is somewhat strange.
P.S. By the way, one of the main characters, who played a maid in the film “Velvet Fingersmith” in 2005, also starred in a supporting role in the film “Tipping the velvet” in 2002 (based on another book, the same writer).
P.P.S. There are two versions of this picture: theatrical, which lasts somewhere 140-145 minutes (~2:25:00 hours), and extended, which lasts 165-167 minutes (~2:47:00 hours). And I must say, the expanded version clarifies a little bit, some scenes from the theatrical version, the actions in which are a little unclear (this does not apply to
erotic scenes, which in both versions are the same). But unfortunately, I managed to find an expanded version only in a one-voice vile translation, and it is a pity, apparently, a normally duplicated version of it apparently does not exist.
Overall, I liked the movie, so
8/9 out of 10.
