Divine At first it seemed that it would be a standard boring author's film - the adventures of unburdened friends from the lower strata of society, densely seasoned with tooth-brushing European political correctness. But that's not true. And although the visual series or the setting of the history of this does not give hints, the music can understand that the film is not as simple as it seems. Actually, it is because of the music that is so unsuitable to what is happening on the screen and at the same time predicts that it will be a deeply tragic story, I did not turn it off at the very beginning.
And the desire was, because the main character is a rude and not very smart girl who wants a lot of money for expensive clubs, but she is lazy to work for her, and there is not enough to come up with a profitable occupation of the imagination. Her girlfriend in the best traditions of political correctness is a fat black woman, a transvestite sometimes appears in the background, heroes live in collapsing barracks, steal, sell drugs, drink... And empathizing with them, imbued with their fates, I did not immediately succeed. But it did work. Largely because despite the dullness of the surrounding characters of the situation and the gloom of the plot, the film does not slide into a hopeless black hole. In the lives of heroes flash bright moments, and the characters are not presented as unambiguous villains, even if at first they seem so. For example, a thoroughly drunk mother who gives herself to everyone who agrees to take turns out to be an unhappy woman who drowns the pain of life’s failures in alcohol. And the unscrupulous and cruel drug dealer is an ordinary girl who dreams of riches and struggles to conform to the chosen image for the benefit of the profession.
At one of the European festivals, the film claimed the award for the script, and, in my opinion, deserved it much more than its rivals. The script in this film is so good that even with all the desire and ability to dig into all sorts of trifles, I can not find anything bad, inept or strange in it. Even a fat black woman exists here not only for the sake of political correctness - her lush bodies will play a very significant role in the climax.
Although the film received several awards in Cannes and not only, it did not raise much noise around itself, and many went unnoticed in a series of other more high-profile winners and nominees. Which is pretty sad, because he certainly deserves to spend two hours of his life on him.
