Music is pleasant and voices of nothing That's what my grandmother once said about an aspiring singer. The same can be said about this film (I have no musical ear, so I can’t share opinions that no one except Meryl Streep can sing here). Oh, well, you can also add “the picture is cute, bright such”. And from a bright picture to the end of the film is already rippling in the eyes.
I guess musicals aren't my thing. This is the second one I could barely wait to finish. That’s because I love Abba’s songs. They were waiting, frankly bored in the breaks, when there should have been an “action”. However, at the moment of sounding the songs, the window with the film could be turned, enjoying the music, because nothing particularly interesting happened on the screen.
"Action" wasn't much. The film in the end resembles a big clip. And clips are usually removed only for the sake of the clip itself, and a little “action” is weaved into it to have something to show on the screen, and not at all for carrying some semantic load.
The characters are ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that they are unsympathetic in appearance (but God is with them), these eerily squealing girls (let's not say girls, mature aunts squealed even more than them!) annoyed. Thank goodness they calmed down by the end.
Too pretentious, too lavish. When this joy-brightness comes out of all the cracks throughout the film, it’s not too good either. Everything should be in moderation.
And this is "I get it!" I don't want a wedding yet! Let's go see the world! - What the hell. It's like they're two incompatible things, and you can't go see the world if you want to after the wedding. Oh, I figured out how to characterize a movie with one word (well, two) - "too frivolous." Your mother, who, apparently, lives extremely poor, organized your wedding (you did not pay for it out of your own pocket), and suddenly it dawned on you at the very last moment that you do not want a wedding, and you must necessarily say something about it, so that all the money spent on a great action will go into oblivion. Oh, come on.
But in the end, of course, everyone is happy. And that's good.
Meryl Streep is good, yes. The rest can sit down, and so be, the “three”.
