Despite the fact that the Russian title "Long Lovers" immediately could understand what this film Cedric Kahn (2009), I was more attracted by the original title "Regret", so I decided to watch it anyway.
Spoilers are coming.
Achitect Mathieu, about 40 years old, long living and working with his wife in Paris, comes to his hometown to the hospital and is in a coma mother. He is going through this condition quite hard, but after breaking the countertop in his mother’s house and deciding to fix it, he goes to the city and there accidentally encounters his former mistress Maya, with whom, as it turns out, he broke up 15 years ago. It turns out that the old feelings did not fade away from both and passion flares up again between them, which throughout most of the film makes itself felt more and more, especially on his part, he literally goes crazy, but this time she ends their relationship and leaves with her daughter and her roommate. Three years pass, Mathieu calms down, divorces and remarries, now he also has a little daughter, whom he loves madly, but the rock is inexorable - Maya again appears on the horizon of his life and they meet again. She says she has never been able to forget him, but we will never know what he will do, the last thing we see is his gaze at Maya, but the fold of his lips is quite severe. Will there be a new outburst of feelings, or will this time, as was the case with their first parting, he go again?
That is, it is clear that the plot is very simple, common, what is interesting is the actors Ivan Attal and Valeria Bruni-Tedeski, as well as a good soundtrack. Another story of love, separation, regret.
