Immediately I want to put an end to the main I – the film is not bad (that’s right, not separately). Moreover, unlike most of the Russian film industry, it is indeed a film. Not without flaws, but still a film. And lately, there is a feeling that in Russia there are no more than two in a year. So don't miss it.
The Brest Fortress is a great start. The pre-war part of the film is shot on a solid five, looks very vivid and interesting. But when the war begins, it gets a little tough. The whole second half of the film is a sequence of the following scenes:
1) Prolonged bombing with crumbling buildings.
2) Long scenes like Krauts in different variations shoot ours.
(3) Long scenes like ours running with stools on tanks and everyone wins.
(4) Conversations and speeches collected from stamps.
As you can see, three of the four items are "long-term." I mean, just protracted and uninteresting. Stuntmen and pyrotechnics give 100% (stuntmen for this film generally need to put their monument). But for the fifth time, watching in slow motion is somehow boring.
And the “short-lived” fourth point — well, right, with rare exceptions, the writers just chant silly loud words. Again, “before the war” conversations are much more interesting and natural.
Cut the number of repetitions of the above four points at least twice and the film would look much more vivid. Moreover, in between the next repetition of the next scene from the “four” sometimes slip very strong scenes. There are more of them...
Bottom line: Good movie. Perhaps this is the best film about the Great Patriotic for the entire history of Russian cinema. Considering what Russian filmmakers have been revering to us recently, the creators of this film deserve the most sincere respect and gratitude. But, unfortunately, there are enough shortcomings in the "Brest Fortress" and I will not put it on the same shelf with the same "And the dawns are quiet here."
It just so happened that the strongest emotions I personally caused the final scene of the film. I do not know why and how, but this granite block is much brighter and deeper conveys the story of the feat of Soviet heroes than two hours of showing the torn limbs.
