Kevin Reynolds was born on January 17, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the eldest of four children in the family of a psychology teacher. While studying at school, Kevin Reynolds became interested in theater, in college he began to write plays himself, but in order not to upset the family, he began to study as a lawyer. And in the early 1970s, he graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and then received a doctorate in law. For a couple of years he was a practicing lawyer in Austin, was engaged in voting law, was a speechwriter and assistant to the future governor of the state, but the desire for cinema was stronger. He attended film lectures at the University of Texas, and in 1979 Reynolds went to Los Angeles and enrolled in the film school at the University of Southern California. Already student work attracted attention to the future director, and thanks to the support of Steven Spielberg, he shot a full-length version of Fandango (1985), and then put one of the TV episodes of his Amazing Stories. Before that, Reynolds managed to be noted as a co-author of the screenplay of J. Milius’ “Red Dawn” (1984). In 1988, Kevin Reynolds put the film "The Beast", and in 1991 the film that brought the director worldwide fame - "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves", in which the title role was played by his friend Kevin Costner. In 1994, Reynolds, according to his script, directed the film Rapa Nui, and a little earlier began work on Water World. However, he did not complete the work on "Water World", disagreeing with the producer Kevin Costner and leaving the project. After the failure of the film “187” (1997) and temporary downtime, the director staged an adaptation of the novel by A. Dumas “The Count of Monte Cristo” (2002) with James Caviezel and Guy Pearce, contrary to critics’ expectations, which became a hit and gave a new impetus to Reynolds’ career.
