Curtis Hanson was born on March 24, 1945 in Reno (Nevada, USA). He began his career in cinema as a screenwriter, and in 1970 he made his debut as a director, putting a thriller about the serial maniac The Arousers. However, Hanson continued to work mainly as a screenwriter, and his next notable directorial work was the Hitchcock-style thriller Bedroom Window (1987). Influenced by Hitchcock and noted the film “Bad Influence” (1990), which had little success, both critics and collections. More notable was the thriller Hand Rocking the Cradle (1992), starring Rebecca De Mornay as a psychopathic nanny. Psychopathic killers were in the center of his next picture - the adventure thriller "Wild River" (1994), in which the main role was played by Meryl Streep. The film enjoyed considerable popularity and was noted by critics. However, whatever Hanson's successes, everything was eclipsed by the fame of his "Secrets of Los Angeles", released in 1997. A detective film about Los Angeles of the 1950s, based on the novel by James Elroy, the director shot from the script, which was written with him by Brian Helgeland. The main roles were brilliantly played by Kim Basinger, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey. “Secrets of Los Angeles” became the film event of the year and brought its creators well-deserved honors: the film was nominated for an Oscar in several nominations, including Best Film and Best Director, and Hanson and Helgeland received gold statuettes as screenwriters. The next work of the director appeared only three years later - the comedy "Wunderkinds" ("Freakies"), with Michael Douglas and Toby McGuire in the lead roles. In 2003, Curtis Hanson released the acclaimed musical drama 8 Mile, in which the film debut of the famous rapper Eminem took place.
