His first full-length work was Sugata Sanziro or the Legend of the Great Master of Judo, which was a great success for the audience. Follow-up work - "Drunk Angel" and "Rasemon" - brought the director world fame, and Rasemon was even awarded several awards - the Grand Prix of the Venice Festival and the Oscar for best foreign film.
