Robert Altman was born on February 20, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. Robert’s father was an American insurer. At the age of 6, Altman entered a Catholic school, which he successfully graduated from. He continued his studies at the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexicon. He fought in World War II as a fighter pilot. After the war, the future director together with his wife went to Hollywood, wanting to make a career in the film industry. The first picture, where Robert Altman took part as a screenwriter, was the x/f “Evester Eve”, but he did not bring popularity. In 1950, Altman returned to Kansas City.
He continued his career at a company that produced technical films. Robert Altman had a lot of practical experience. In six years, he wrote screenplays and directed more than six dozen films. The director’s debut in the big movie took place in 1957 with the film “Delinquents”. Huge popularity brought Altman black comedy "Military Field Hospital", which was awarded the Cannes festival. This happened in 1970. Five years later, Altman directed the triumphant film Nashville, which received national awards. Until 1992 he lived and worked mainly in France.
