Melvyn Douglas or Zalman Lefkovitz was born in Trenton, New Jersey, USA. Graduated from Grinell College, where he studied anthropology. He worked as a diver when he was young. He came to the cinema in the early 70s. Debuting as an actor in the film Ski Boom (1971), Zalman King himself began making films in the 80s. He is now widely known as a director, screenwriter and producer, thanks to such films as Nine and a Half Weeks (1986), Wild Orchid I - II (1990 - 92), The merger of two moons (1988), the television series The Diaries of the Red Shoe.
